Integrative rehabilitation
Integrative rehabilitation implies a set of procedures that are part of the treatment of stationary and day hospital patients in the Insula County Hospital for psychiatry and rehabilitation.
After a detailed initial diagnosis, which most frequently includes an examination by a psychiatrist, neurologist, physiatrist, internal medicine specialist, clinical psychologist, and an occupational therapy assessment, the therapy team (which includes the therapists working in the hospital departments or in the day hospital and the therapists from the Department of Integrative Rehabilitation) creates an all-inclusive patient-adapted therapy program, that is evaluated and, if necessary, supplemented and adjusted during the implementation, as well as upon completion.
The greatest asset of the Department of Integrative Rehabilitation is the multidisciplinary team consisting of occupational therapists, physical therapists, clinical psychologists, social pedagogues, pedagogues, speech therapists, and, if necessary, other professionals. Every team member contributes with a skill set specific to their profession and enables the wide variety of individual and group activities in our therapy offer.
A therapy program of the Department of Integrative Rehabilitation can consist of procedures from the following fields:
- psychotherapy (Group PTSD psychotherapy, Group psychodynamic psychotherapy, EMDR – individual and group therapy);
- psychoeducation (Stress-relief program, Metacognitive training for psychosis – group, Social skills training – individual, Social roles training, Anxiety management training, Cinema therapy, No-to-Violence group);
- neurocognitive rehabilitation (cognitive training, sensory integration);
- physiotherapy (exercising in the gym, breathing exercises, mobility and flexibility exercises);
- relaxation methods (Relaxation with music, Biofeedback, Snoezelen room);
- art therapy (Creative processes, Therapy drawing, Art group/ Painting group, Book therapy, Bibliotherapy, jewelry making group);
- practical skills and work habits (Household management, Economics, Employment assistance);
- animal-assisted therapy (Animal-assisted therapy – individual, Animal-assisted therapy – group, therapy dog);
- free time (Film, Karaoke, Board games, Chess, Puzzles, Ludo, Computer, Music Workshop, Library).
The team holds regular weekly meetings to discuss the work of the Department, create therapy programs, and plan future activities, as well as to continuously work on the improvement of communication and work organization. A new addition are record sheets with weekly schedules of the patients’ therapy programs, as well as their electronic versions, allowing each team member insight into the current program of each patient and make the planning of the upcoming activities easier.
Adequate and good-equipped infrastructure is also of great importance for our work. We can safely say that the space of the Department of Integrative Rehabilitation makes not only our patients feel comfortable but also our employees and occasional visitors. We have separate rooms for various aforementioned activities, a library, a TV room, and similar rooms, like the multipurpose ones used for group therapy, and cinema therapy, relaxation with music and music workshops. The whole space resembles a big gallery decorated with the art of our former and current patients, with the unavoidable smell of lavender. We also have to mention our kitchen where many patients acquire household management skills and significantly improve the quality of their and the personal lives of their household members.
