What We Do

Insula County Hospital has been continuously caring for their patients' mental health for seven decades; ever since its foundation in 1955. Although its beginnings were marked by working in modest conditions in temporarily adapted buildings of an abandoned concentration camp, over the years, depending on possibilities, they increased the capacity for admitting patients, equipped specialized wards for the treatment of various diseases, and invested in the education of medical personnel.

After Primorje-Gorski Kotar County took ownership two decades ago, the institution has experienced a distinct boom under the guidance of the new administration. There has been a huge investment momentum that includes not only the renovation and decoration of the hospital complex, but also a new organizational structure, significant investments in the employment and education of qualified personnel, the introduction and application of the most modern and innovative working methods, professional and scientific work, cooperation with universities and numerous reputable individuals and institutions in the country and abroad.

Today, the institution employs 270 employees, provides inpatient and outpatient treatment, as well as teaching base for faculties at four Croatian universities. It consists of seven specialized wards for the treatment and rehabilitation of a wide range of mental disorders and neurological impairment of hospitalized patients and patients in the Day Hospital program. Apart from modern equipment, Insula Outpatient Department offers a range of diagnostic, specialist and rehabilitation services.
